Parent Workshops

River School parent workshop

River School invites all families of enrolled children to participate in our Parenting Workshops. These programs provide many opportunities for you to learn about, for example, how your child acquires knowledge, how he/she socializes, the meaning of play and how to navigate the kindergarten entrance process.

Here is a sample of the people who have presented workshops to the River School community in the past:

Robin Aronow is the foremost authority on Manhattan Public Schools. Robin monitors any and all changes to the kindergarten entrance process from the NYC Board of Education. Robin has the inside track on what will change and what will stay the same from year to year for zoned schools, G&T programs, charter schools and Hunter. Every September Robin comes to River School and talks to our families on “Everything You Need to Learn About Applying to New York City Public and Private Schools”.

Jean Schreiber, M.S., (*pictured above) is a renowned authority on Early Childhood Development. Each year Jean presents her inspiring workshops for River School families on such topics   The Importance of Play in the Early Years and Fostering Self-Esteem: Raising Children who are Competent, Confident and Compassionate.

Nancy Samalin, M.S., is a pioneer in the field of parent education. She is a best-selling author of, Loving without Spoiling: Be the Best Parent You Can Be and Learn Positive Discipline That Works. Nancy specializes in a hands-on approach and her talks are followed by an in-depth question and answer period.
